During the whole trip, you will be surrounded by beautiful Andean scenery and flora and fauna typical of the area and from the summit, the famous Rainbow Mountain can be seen,
We depart Cusco at 7 in the morning towards the town of Pitumarca. Here we will make a short stop and we’ll have the opportunity to buy fruit or water or other things necessary for the hike. We will then get back in the vehicle and head to Quesoyuni, where our group of mule handlers and pack animals will be waiting for us. Once we have packed the gear onto the animals, we will start the hike, carrying the personal items we need during the hike, including water and snacks. The hike to base camp will take around three hours and on arrival we will set up camp, enjoying the scenery and looking up and tomorrow’s objective while we wait for dinner.
We will wake up at 3.30am to eat a light breakfast, before starting the hike to the glacier with our personal equipment, backpacks and headlamps. The walk to the glacier will take around two hours, and once there, we will get kitted up with technical gear and begin the ascent of around three hours to the summit. After some time to enjoy the spectacular view of the Vilcanota mountain range, we will start our descent towards base camp for lunch. Afterwards, we will take down camp and return to Quesoyoni (around three hours) and then by vehicle back to Cusco.
