In the hills that surround the city of Cusco, there are several hidden crags of good quality limestone that have been developed for sport climbing. During the day, we will visit two of these crags to experience a variety of climbing styles, natural environments, and rock features. There are routes of various levels of difficulty, so this tour is great for climbers of all levels who want to experience climbing at high altitude, enjoying beautiful views of the city and its surroundings.
The tour starts with pick up from your hotel to head to the climbing area, located close to the community of Salkantay, around 45 minutes by car from the centre of the city. On arrival at the crag, the instructors will give a short briefing about the equipment and safety considerations for the day. We spend the following hours climbing a variety of routes with grades varying between 5a and 6b, focusing on various techniques for climbing on vertical walls and slabs. In the afternoon, we can continue at Salkantay or head down to the sector known as “Las Queuñas” (15 minutes approx. by car). This crag sports a greater variety of rock features, including stalactites, tufas, overhangs and dihedral corners, which can make the routes here more challenging (6a+ to 7b). After trying as many routes as many times as preferred, we will return to the hotel.
