About Rock Climbing: Cusco – Salkantay

In the hills that surround the city of Cusco, there are several hidden crags of good quality limestone that have been developed for sport climbing. The “Salkantay” sector is located near a hamlet of the same name, approximately 45 minutes from the centre of Cusco. The vertical wall of 15m has the most accessible routes in the area, so it is ideal for beginner and intermediate climbers who want to experience climbing at high altitude, enjoying beautiful views of the city and its surroundings.

Itinerary

Cusco – Salkantay – Cusco

The tour starts with pick up from your hotel to head to the climbing area, located close to the community of Salkantay, around 45 minutes by car from the centre of the city. On arrival at the crag, the instructors will give a short briefing about the equipment and safety considerations for the day. We spend the following hours climbing a variety of routes with grades varying between 5a and 6b, focusing on various techniques for climbing on vertical walls and slabs. After trying as many routes as many times as preferred, we will return to the hotel
