During this hike you will be able to appreciate the cultural and natural richness of the Cusqueñan Andes. Meeting with local Quechua communities And the imposing Urubamba mountain range make this an extraordinary experience. Greeting locals in their traditional dress, looking after their herds of alpacas and llamas will not be unusual.
We leave Cusco to head towards the Sacred Valley, passing small communities and climbing into the mountains. From the high pass, we descend to the town of Lares where we will have the opportunity to enjoy the hot springs. We will eat lunch here as our mule handlers pack up the equipment on our pack animals. We will then start the hike, carrying only our personal belongings, water and snacks in our backpacks. By late afternoon, we will arrive at our campsite for the evening.
We will wake with the first rays of sun to eat breakfast before starting the hardest and longest day of the hike. We begin by ascending to the high pass of Pumahuancajasa, which will challenge our physical strength, but will reward us with beautiful mountain scenery: Pitusiray, Sawasiray y Chicon. Once we reach the summit, we will begin the descent to Pachaspata, where we will spend the night.
After a restorative breakfast, we will begin the descent through small communities where we will be able to appreciate the old customs still carried out by the local people, inhabitants of the Tawantinsuyo. We end the hike near to Urubamba where the vehicle will meet us and takes us to our hotel in Cusco or the Sacred Valley.
